Walt
Disney Co. shares fell more than 6%

in
early trading Wednesday after the company reported
disappointing fiscal first-quarter results that fed into fears
about the various impacts of decreased consumer spending. The
Burbank, Calif.-based conglomerate reported a quarterly profit
that fell substantially short of analysts' expectations on
lower DVD sales and a drop in advertising sales at its
broadcast and cable television networks. "I think what
we're seeing with a lot companies this earnings season, media
companies and others, is that when they miss, they're missing
by a wide margin,", in an interview. "We're used to
seeing surprises on the upside for Disney, but they're not
immune to these economic times either," said Robin
Diedrich, senior entertainment and communications analyst at
Edward Jones.'

RUMOR Are you 23?----

advertisement for a new Disney fan club that will be targeted
to the die hard fan of the company. It’s rumored that the
new club will have annual fee, special events and exclusive
merchandise. The ‘Are you 23?’ is a reference to the year
that the Disney company was officially founded.

Disney's Animal Kingdom
Lodge welcomed
----
|
|
---- the birth of two Ruppell's
Griffon Vultures earlier this month. They are the first
hatchings of this threatened species at Walt Disney World
Resort. Each chick weighed less than six ounces and was about
eight inches long when hatched. Over the past 20 years, the
population of Ruppell's Griffon Vultures has been declining,
which led the International Union for Conservation of Nature
to raise the status of this species to threatened. When grown,
each vulture could reach sizes close to three feet in height,
with a wingspan of nearly eight feet, and weigh 15-20 pounds.
They are also known for their high-flying skills, being among
the highest-flying bird on record, once spotted at an altitude
of more than 37,000 feet. Ruppell's vultures can fly more than
three miles in six minutes and are able to stay in the air for
as many as six to seven hours a day. The Ruppell's vultures
pair up for life, which may be 40 or 50 years.

points for your next vacation, you’ll want to see how your
typical vacation pattern is affected by the recent
reallocation in how points are used in the DVC. Disney is
prevented by state law from changing how much it costs to stay

to parts of a week.If you like to stay around weekends,

if you prefer those mid-week stays, then you might find it
just a bit more expensive. All part of an effort by Disney to

Your
Disney Recipe:
Tropical Pineapple Dessert
Disney
Cruises
INGREDIENTS:
- 2
large pineapples
- 1
cup packed dark brown sugar
- 1/2
cup (1 stick) plus 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2
sheets frozen phyllo dough, thawed
- 1/4
cup confectioners' sugar
- 1/2
cup heavy cream
- 1/2
teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- Commercially
prepared raspberry and apricot pourable fruits or fruit syrups
- Vanilla
ice cream, for serving
PREPARATION:
- Preheat
the oven to 300 degrees F. Cut off the crown and the base of
each pineapple. Cut off wide strips of the outer peel of the
pineapple. Remove the eyes from the pineapple using a melon
baller. Cut the pineapple lengthwise into 6 wedges; remove the
center core. Arrange the pineapple wedges on two parchment-lined
baking sheets.
- In
a small saucepan combine the brown sugar and 1/2 cup butter;
heat and stir over medium heat until the butter is melted. Pour
the mixture over the pineapple. Bake, uncovered, for 1 1/2
hours, turning the pineapple three times during baking.
- Remove
the pineapple from the baking sheets; transfer the collected
syrup from the parchment paper to a small saucepan. Boil the
syrup gently over medium heat until it is reduced to about 2/3
cup, about 10 minutes. Set aside to cool.
- Meanwhile,
place on phyllo sheet on a clean work surface; brush the sheet
with 1 tablespoon of melted butter. Sift half of the
confectioner's sugar over the butter. Cover with the remaining
sheet of phyllo; brush the top sheet with the remaining melted
butter. Sift the remaining confectioners' sugar over the top
sheet of phyllo. Cut the phyllo stack in half crosswise. Stack
the rectangles to make 4 layers of phyllo. Trim the uneven edges
of the phyllo stack, discarding the trimmings. (You should have
a 12-by-8-inch rectangle of phyllo at this point). Cut the
phyllo stack into six 4-inch squares. Cut each square in half
diagonally to form two triangles (you will end up with 12
triangles total). Transfer the triangles to a parchment-lined
baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden. Remove the
triangles from the oven; place the baking sheet on a wire rack.
Cool the phyllo triangles completely before removing them from
the baking sheet.
- To
make the vanilla sauce, beat the heavy cream and vanilla in an
electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment until the cream
forms soft peaks. To "paint" the dessert plates, place
the vanilla sauce and raspberry and apricot pourable fruits in
separate re-sealable plastic bags. Snip off the corner of each
bag, and squeeze small dots of vanilla sauce about 1 inch apart
along the inside rim of a large rimmed dessert plate. Dot the
raspberry and apricot syrups alongside the vanilla sauce. Pull a
bamboo skewer or a toothpick through the syrups to create a
marbled effect. Repeat the process with 5 more dessert plates.
- To
serve, place two pineapple wedges on each dessert plate. Stir
the pineapple syrup and spoon over the pineapples. Add a scoop
of vanilla ice cream to each plate between the two spears.
Gently place two phyllo triangles vertically between the
pineapple and the ice cream to resemble sails on a sailboat.
Serve immediately.

6

We do our best to bring you factual,
timely information. However it seems that, at least on occasion,
Disney is fueled by rumors. So we shall pass some of them along as
well. But we will preface it as such.
Who are we?
We have been
collecting Disneyana for over 25 years. Our collection is made up
mostly of Disney tin toys, games and trains. We have attended over
120 Disney special events in the last 25 years. And, we have visited
all of the Disney parks worldwide. Our personal favorite is
Disneyland
–
but they all have something unique and, yes, magical about
them.
What shows
will we do?
We have cut way back
on our show schedule. However, we will do the Chicago Toy Show in
April and October of 2009. The Chicago Toy Show (actually held at
the Kane County Fairgrounds, about 30 miles from
Chicago
),
is one of the largest toy shows in the world. Nearly 1500 tables of
quality toys attract a crowd from all over the world. Want

Trivia Answer----
Answer: a. Believe it or
not, it's Howdy Doody. The Disneyland Hotel was built by Jack
Wrather or the Wrather corporation as Walt did not have the money to
build the hotel after building
Disneyland
. Jack Wrather refused to sell the hotel back to Disney. After his
death, the Walt Disney Company bought the entire Wrather company,
the purchase of which included the rights to the Lone Ranger, The
RMS Queen Mary, Lassie the TV show and of course, The Disneyland
Hotel.
