LATE NEWS:.

UPDATE: City Opera's plans for an opera ----

---- based on Walt Disney's life have been scrapped. The director, Gerald Mortier - who also served as the opera's general manager, has left his position at City Opera and the company has stopped all projects Mortier was involved in. In the end this may not be all bad news for Disney fans. The book that the opera was reportedly going to be based on, The Perfect American by Peter Stephen Jung, has been described as controversial at best. The story is around an Austrian cartoonist's love/hate relationship with Disney.

The Sleeping Beauty castle walk-through ----

---- reopens at Disneyland in December 2008 after a seven-year hiatus. Visitors will walk past a series of forced-perspective dioramas featuring deceptively simple special effects that tell the story of “Sleeping Beauty.”

Disney Imagineer Tony Baxter, who shepherded the walk-through restoration, understands that the best new Disneyland attraction is an old attraction conceived by Walt Disney himself. Resurrecting the past plays into one of the Anaheim theme park’s core assets: nostalgia. “I still have very strong memories of taking a journey through this castle,” said Baxter, Disneyland ’s chief Imagineer. DL & DCA refurbishment updates ----

---- the walls around the Plaza Pavilion are scheduled to come down on November 7th, so we’ll finally see something nice in that corner of Main Street. It’s a Small World will now re-open on November 29th, as opposed to the previously scheduled November 21st. Finally for Disneyland Park , Fantasy Faire Gifts over at the Princess Fantasy Faire will be closed from October 27th, through November 21st.

Over at DCA, the Midway Games close on Monday for their conversion over to the new Games of the Boardwalk. Both the Games & Mickey’s Fun Wheel will re-open on April 24th, 2009 . Burger Invasion is now scheduled to be closed all the way through May 7th, 2010 ! That pretty much confirms that they’re doing much more than just ripping out the kitchen, & are probably re-theming it to the Beer Garden during this time.

“Take one ToT and call me in the morning” ----

---- Denise Mooty suffers from abdominal adhesions which she claims are helped by riding the Hollywood Tower of Terror repeatedly. Ms. Mooty has been going to the park every Saturday for the last three and a half years and riding TOT repeatedly all day using a guest assistance card (which in her case allows her to go to the front of the line) to ride without a wait all day. She claims that she normally would need six surgeries a year to relieve her condition but states that she has only needed one a year since she has been riding TOT. Disney first sought to limit her riding and now has banned her from the park reportedly due to profanity and trespassing. Mooty is suing Disney for denying her medial needs. Disney is reportedly willing to hear an appeal but is concerned about Mootys’ potty mouth. Kinda sounds like a bit from the old ‘Ripley’s’, huh?

The upcoming Disney animated film "Bolt"  ----

---- features a feisty canine that gets lost and makes his long journey home with the help of two world-wise pals. It's the kind of classic Disney parable that could just as well be told of the studio's once-revered animation division. A measure of how well Disney succeeds at reclaiming its heritage and how the two animation cultures coexist will be tested when "Bolt" opens in theaters Nov. 21. Disney's new computer-animated film is the first entirely overseen by Pixar's creative guru, John Lasseter, and tech whiz Ed Catmull, who took charge of Disney Animation after the acquisition. Your Disney Recipe:

Three For Your Thanksgiving Table….

Roast Turkey with Stuffing

from the Grand Floridian Hotel in WDW

INGREDIENTS:

1 - 14 to 16-lb. turkey, fresh or defrosted

2 carrots, peeled

2 celery stalks

1 large onion, quartered

11 cups stuffing (See recipe below)

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups chicken broth (regular or low-sodium)

Fresh herbs and orange slices

PREPARATION:

  • Heat the oven to 325 degrees. Rinse the turkey with cold water and blot dry, inside and out, with a paper towel.
  • Place the neck, giblets, carrots, celery, and onion in a large roasting pan and arrange the turkey on top, breast-side up.
  • Loosely pack the stuffing in the neck cavity and inside the body. Fold the wings back and under the body of the turkey. Fold the neck skin under to enclose the stuffing and tie the legs together with butcher's twine.
  • Season the turkey with salt and pepper. Pour the broth into the roasting pan. Roast for 3 3/4 to 4 1/2 hours, basting frequently and tenting the turkey with aluminum foil two thirds of the way through the cooking process.
  • Test for doneness with a meat thermometer. The temperature in the thickest part of the thigh should be 180 degrees, in the thickest part of the breast, 170 degrees, and in the stuffing, 160 degrees.
  • Remove the stuffing and let the bird sit for 10 minutes before carving. Place the fresh herbs and orange slices on the turkey for a festive presentation.

Serves 10 to 12.
If you're roasting a smaller or larger bird, use the chart below:

Turkey Roasting Times
10 to 18 lbs.:
3 to 3 1/2 hours (unstuffed)
3 3/4 to 4 1/2 hours (stuffed)

18 to 22 lbs.:
3 1/2 to 4 hours (unstuffed)
4 1/2 to 5 hours (stuffed)

22 to 24 lbs.:
4 to 4 1/2 hours (unstuffed)
5 to 5 1/2 hours (stuffed)

24 to 30 lbs.:
4 1/2 to 5 hours (unstuffed)
5 1/2 to 6 1/4 (stuffed)

Classic Bread Turkey Stuffing

INGREDIENTS:

12 cups bread cubes

1 cup unsalted butter

¾ cup minced onion

1 ½ cups chopped celery

2 T salt

1 t pepper

1 t ground sage

No-salt chicken broth

PREPARATION:

  • In a large, heavy skillet over medium heat melt the butter, then sauté the onion and celery until the onion is soft, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir in the salt, pepper, and sage and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
  • Place the bread cubes into a large, deep bowl.
  • Pour 1/4 cup of the butter/celery mixture over the cubes and toss well, then repeat steps until all of the butter mixture is used.
  • Toss the cubes thoroughly to coat.
  • (Regarding the optional chicken broth: for dry stuffing, add little or no liquid; for moist stuffing mix in lightly with fork just enough chicken broth to moisten dry crumbs.)
  • Let cool before stuffing for the turkey.

EARlectronic News© is the intellectual property of Keepers Collectibles© and Disneyana.biz©.

We do our best to bring you factual, timely information. However it seems that, at least on occasion, Disney is fueled by rumors. So we shall pass some of them along as well. But we will preface it as such.

Who are we?

We have been collecting Disneyana for over 25 years. Our collection is made up mostly of Disney tin toys, games and trains. We have attended over 100 Disney special events in the last 15 years. And, we have visited all of the Disney parks worldwide. Our personal favorite is Disneyland – but they all have something unique and, yes, magical about them.

What shows will we do?

We have cut way back on our show schedule. However, we will do the Chicago Toy Show in April and October of 2008. The Chicago Toy Show (actually held at the Kane County Fairgrounds, about 30 miles from Chicago ), is one of the largest toy shows in the world. Nearly 1500 tables of quality toys attract a crowd from all over the world. Want more info? Click here:
